Hi friends in my continued effort to help us get to know each other better I’m here to peel away One Mo layer of the quirky onion that is me. I have what is known as automatonophobia. This is, according to Wikipedia, a fear of anyrhing that falsely represents a sentient being. I’ve just always known that I do not like life size or slightly bigger statues. I should say that while mannequins and ventriloquist dummies can be very creepy they don’t scare me. I’ll share with you some statues that I am creeped out by.
I don’t know the name of this statue but it is outside of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. As a kid my fear was that it would come to life and trample our car or it would come falling down the hill its on and crush our car. The seed was planted.
This statue is called Ugolino and his sons. Ugolino was a 13th century naval commander and nobleman who was imprisoned with his sons and grandsons and they were all left to starve. A copy of this was inside the Indiana Memorial Union. It’s clear to me that Ugolino is just waiting to come to life with the sole purpose of murdering people dead!
This statue of a young Abraham Lincoln is down the street from my new apartment. At night I literally have to run for my life past this future President monster just to get home safely. You’d think Honest Abe would get his fill of torturing me but no.
The Lincoln Monument is a thing of nightmares! Look at him sitting there looking like General Zod just waiting to scar a bunch of automatonophobic people for life.
I have no words for this final monstrosity! It lives in Germany and I can’t even imagine why someone would think this is a good idea. I beg you to prepare yourself emotionally for this…
Really people it just touches my soul that I can share my inner thoughts and feelings with you like this. Does anyone else have some random thing that creeps you out the way statues do me? Comment and tell me about it.
